Site is Down

The forum is currently down.

The Host and admins have been notified.

Edit: Staff has been informed and the database is being worked on and the PHP version is being upgraded.

May 21 update:

Okay, turns out the site was causing an abnormal load on the server, and my hosting company disabled the database. It's been re-enabled and we should be able to update the PHPBB installation now.

I didn't get the notification they supposedly sent me about it.

With the PHP being updated does that mean the Themes are going to need edits? And will we Finally get new themes?

LarryF said...

Dunno about the themes. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I've sent off a message to my hosting service about what appears to be a missing database. Hope to get a reply today sometime.

While I can get into *something* in the server, it doesn't allow me to run any repairs.

I've made a few backups of the databases, but so far the only one I've found seems to be from last January. I was sure I'd gotten one more recently than that!

Yikes. I leave for lunch yesterday, and when I get back, a bunch of stuff is missing. Sort of like my mind without enough sleep.

Anyhow, hope things turn out better later on.

I really hope that when all is said and done we didn't lose a third of a year of posting. That's allot of fics and Spamville experiences. Heck it would also include nearly off of the new Spamville comic Color Edition.

I don't know if people hosted the ones made to the 4 frame challenge in a way that could be easily accessible. After all it's easy to Upload on Imageshack without being logged in.

That was weird this is just a brief note because of it but all turned to off when I submitted my last comment.

I have most of the new Spamville comics saved to disk, except for maybe the most recent one, so that shouldn't be much of an issue.

Losing most of the Spamville stuff doesn't bother me. It's losing the suggestions and info gathered together for the Sandwich that ticks me off.

Spokavriel said...

Allot of the Spam Sandwich suggestions were made a while back. So if they do have it archived as of January most of it should still be there.

Curtis R. B. said...

The keyword being 'most', of course. Next time, I'm just going to save the info to disk and be done with it.

Anyway, looking forward to when the site's back up, whenever that may be.

So...does this mean I will need to go off on a postin tangent just ti get back to my recently aquired level of postings...I dont think I will have that kind of time off for a while now???

Daniel Thomas Stack (AKA Spokavriel) said...

If the data for recent posts can't be found then what would be there to be counted?

Oh and for just chitchat why not come to the IRC chat at irc://irc.lunarnet.org/ The room is #fukufics . Allot of board dwellers show up there.

I gave up on IRC a long time ago. I just wasn't using it as much as I used to, so I finally just deleted my client program within the past year or so. I don't like that sort of environment anyhow.

So wait a letter got lost and this was their way of forcing an update to ease the server load?

Why do I feel that this is partly my fault due to my posts increasing Spamville traffic.

Spokavriel said...

Erk I really should preview more. My posts involved in increasing Spamville traffic. Not to mention how frequently I posted additional clue images for the Guess the Anime game.

So the Database is intact they just pulled the plug? And now that it is back is it backed up in case of problems in the update?

Curtis Ray B. said...

Shame they couldn't have waited until the weekend, but I guess I can't complain.

Talonhunter said...

So how much longer til the site is back up??

LarryF said...

It wasn't due to too much activity on the part of forum members. We've actually had less traffic in recent months.

The tech at my hosting company said, "Load problems are generally not caused by the number of visitors, but more of a problem with the way your scripts are accessing the database or the queries they are running."

So it's not the messages, but the way the scripting was working. He also told me that our upgrade to the latest version of PHPBB may help.

So in other words if all the times we kept getting the same SQL errors were reported it might have shown a clearer picture?

Especially on the 19th where I was getting them with almost every post?

Rei-chan said...

I figured it couldn't have been activity. Good to hear that the updates may avoid any of this in the future.
